Lennart Gruensel, a Master’s graduate from Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, embarks on a journey to this lost paradise in his master’s thesis »/Imagine Eden«. Between concrete jungles and digital landscapes, he explores the relationship between humans, nature, and technology, together with his companion Argos, an advanced artificial intelligence. On their journey, they create visionary images that invite reflection.

The Nordstadtgalerie invited interested students, as well as non-students, to a series of four self-care events. Attendees had the opportunity to focus on their well-being in a relaxed setting. In collaboration with the Psychological Student Counseling Service, the FH-Knitting Café, and ‚Community Music‘ from the Concert Hall, a diverse ‚good mood program‘ was created.

For over a decade, the Nordstadtgalerie has been a vibrant part of the „Hochschule vor Ort,“ hosting workshops and exhibitions that address a wide range of societal issues, from urban living to academic debates. At the event, visitors had the opportunity to contribute their own ideas, fostering a dynamic exchange on future creative events and topics of interest.

The event included a lecture by Tim Sonnenberg on the stigmatization faced by homeless individuals, accompanied by an exhibition of Lennart Hüppe’s photographs and a window display showcasing local efforts. The event also featured discussions with social activist Janita-Marja Juvonen and a „Social City Tour“ organised by bodo e.V. providing insights into the daily lives of those affected by homelessness.

On October 14, 2023, the African-German community at FH Dortmund hosted a networking event themed „From Lost Space to Safer Space,“ held at the Nordstadtgalerie. This gathering welcomed Black People, Indigenous People, and People of Colour (BIPoC), marking the beginning of a series of similar events planned for the future.

Under the theme „Shining a Light on the Gender Data Gap,“ Nicole Wilke, a graduate in photography and film, exhibited the results of her bachelor’s thesis at the Nordstadtgalerie. The young photographer uniquely highlighted the often-invisible issue of the „Gender Data Gap“. Using the art of light painting, she created exceptionally distinctive photographs.

It featured enriching discussions and a hands-on workshop, allowing attendees to experience 3D printing firsthand and showcasing the hidden processes behind a 3D printer through Finn Tödte’s audiovisual piece „DRUCKMOMENT.“

Participants delved into how heat builds up in densely built urban zones, gaining insights on managing heat with practical tips and strategies.
